“I had an opportunity to visit A.Tosh & Sons (India) Ltd.’s facility situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu recently, on November 24, 2020. This was in connection with the installation of our tea bag machines at their tea bag plant.
The campus is located in an area over 10 acres which is flush with greenery. Nestled within this green campus is their vast packing and storage facility. The Standards being maintained at A.Tosh are evident right from the main entrance.
I was pleased to note that all the visitors and workers/staff are scanned for temperature (fever). Further, they are requested to fill up a short form on their ongoing health conditions, specifically related to the ongoing Covid19 scare. The form is easy to understand and comprehensive to ascertain whether one can be an ‘at-risk’ individual. Before being allowed into the premises, you are issued a set of disposal here cup and face masks.
The production/processing areas are all access controlled. A biometric device is installed at the entrance, and visitors are assisted by the security personnel as it relates to their entrance into the area.
Every entrance is a double door entrance system. Further, high-powered air curtains are installed at every entrance point. Then one needs to change into the footwear allowed within the production area. To leave your shoes behind, you have enough and more lockers right at the plant entrance.
Personal hygiene is strictly followed at a Tosh. The visitors are issued fresh and clean full-sleeve aprons (long jackets). Lint rollers are available at the entrance point with full length mirrors installed to check for proper attire as well as cleaning oneself of any loose hair etc. Notably, they have changing areas as well as restrooms for men and women, equipped with storage lockers.
After changing into the proper PPE, you move to the right hygiene station where you wash your hand thoroughly, use tissue paper to dry your hand completely and use hand sanitizer to further sanitize your hand. Lastly, you pass through another high-power air curtain.
The production area is completely controlled environment where all the workers follow the Food Safety System. All the machinery installed are truly world-class, with an especially designed machine for visual inspection and cleaning of the blended teas as an additional measure towards maintaining food safety.
Truly, A. Tosh has built a state-of-the-art unit, one that is a rarity in the industry and where each individual follows the system properly. I wish them many successes!”
